For those of you all who don't know who she is, Missy Elliot (Melissa Arnette Elliott) is a American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer who is known for a a series of hits and funky music videos such as "Get Your Freak On","One Minute Man", "Work It" and "Gossip Folks".
Now, what is so special about her new music video this time? Nope, not another neck twirling out like in her early music video "Get Your Freak On" but the world's first ever 3D music video and yes, you need those special glasses to view this video to get the 3D effect.
Thats not all, its nothing really new, but she has invited a dance crew from Japan called the "Woomin Crew" whom she had found while surfing on the internet to dance in this video. Its not really about the part that the crew was Japan. It was really about the "East meets East" feel to the music video, not the usual kind of hip hop video where you only see african americans on the set dancing. These Japanese hip hop kiddos were dressed in vibrant colors, Harajuku street style, and not only that, they combined a hint of Bollywood-style movements with the defying-time-and-space warping stop slow motion dance that really captured my attention.
"My inspiration comes from all over the world and this video really showcases that.” Missy Elliot commented
a clip of the Woomin Crew dancing.
Now, you, may be a six year old kid, an asian dude, a 34 year old adult with nothing to do with any music, whatsoever or even a teenager so very into hip hop. Whoever you are, i think you would be enticed by this video that Missy Eliiot made. Not because it has hypnotic powers to woo your souls into this but i believe its because these are the kinds of things that make up the modern day "PATHOS"; an appeal to emotion. Not so much to argue using emotional grounds but to appeal to the emotions, makes people want to sit down and listen and watch the strange moves that the Woomin Crew has to offer. Come to think of it,the colorful and fresh flavor that is being displayed really is hypnotic. Whether you're asian, white, hispanic, black, whatever! You'll still be quite interested in this video because of the appeal it has.
If you were to be asian, not so into hip hop and suddenly you see your fellow "yellow-skinned" dancing in the television screen to a not so familiar sound of hip hop, i bet you 10 cents that you'd sit down for at least 30 seconds to catch what in the world are these people doing. Really i say, its the modern day pathos.
and last but not least, the Ching-a-ling video clip! ENJOY!
(hope you get your hands on one of those 3D effect glasses. IS SO COOL!)
