them?

Photobucket
him?

Photobucket
this? (is this fake?)lol.

Not saying that it right or wrong, but i think Asia's youth,
Singapore's, especially are being highly influenced by this
whole beverly hills, posh, party every week kind
of lifestyle. It is definitely a whole different culture introduced
to the asian context fro m the westerners. Wednesday night
used to be stay-home watch tv do homework go sleep night.
Now it's lady's night, go party with your friends night.
I can say that because the television programmes we have
is dominated by American shows and these "values" are passed
on to our nation and of course the first to catch this cold would
be our youths, because youths are the ones finding who they are,
experimenting, highly being influenced. They find it cool.
(but im one of them so whatever)

However there are things that are controversial about our media
being dominated by American programmes. Some say it is good
because we should be more open like America or we should see
more outside of Asia. On the other hand, some say its bad because
of the negative influences brought on.

Hey, im not gonna forget our mass comm term for this.
Hello, its cultural imperialism for you. okay. background.

Cultural imperialism is the one-way flow of international messages or media products, especially news and television flows, from a few metropolises that has led to the dispute over cultural dominance.

ah,we've been f*ked up by tv. and i'm one who is going to admit it,
i know that im losing my chinese roots by the minute and
its like english is my mother tongue. and the values, oh my tian,
i don't even want to go there.i'm glad i have parents who keeps
me grounded.

so,you americanized yet??

i think it is bad that we asians are surrendering to western influences and cultures. but then again, without them, we won't move into civilization and improve.

who doesn't want to live in beverly. no, who doesn't want to live in a big house?! so i don't think its so much of the american tv. But i agree that it is because of the american tv that make us want to live in beverly hills with the celebrities lifestyle, party hard! but *sigh* will it ever come true.

western influences do have some good points though. like it strives people to wrok hard but yet play hard too and not be so hard on themselves..
